A game of two halves yesterday - a sh*tty morning at Poole Harbour in
hideous death chop and stupidly gusty wind, followed by an afternoon of
perfection on Weymouth speed strip in the afternoon!
Having set off at 4.30am to pick up Grawp and miss the rush hour traffic,
we got to Poole about 7.30 ish, and headed to the Caf (after checking out
Sandbanks for the first time). I was itching to try out my newly aquired
Ezzy skinny 400, but didn't have a skinny extension. So £100 later (um, I
bought a couple of other things as well as the chinook extension at Poole
Watersports!), I rigged and headed out on my 4.7 voodoo and Freewave, but
the conditions were shockingly bad, and after two hours of getting
progressively more angry, we decided to de-camp to Weymouth instead. GOOD
decision! The wind was a solid 25+ kts and in perfect alignment for the
speedstrip, with beautifully flat water! So Ed got the GPS out, and three
hours of drag racing ensued, at times rather stacked on my 5.3. Ed was
clocking 27.88kts, and I reckon I was not far behind, as I managed to stay
with him for the most part. Eventually, his extra half a metre of sail (and
better skills!) had the edge. Wicked fun though. Curry and beer in
Winchester topped the day off nicely, and I finally got home at 10.30pm.
Feeling spent but elated today!
BTW, I'm loving the skinny!
